Tuesdays (April 8, 2025 – July 15, 2025) | 10.00 – 11.30

Building 216, Sprachlabor, Room 1.115, Gronewaldstr. 2

This seminar will introduce students to key concepts and methods of the Environmental Humanities (EH). Using the example of ecocriticism as a subdiscipline of EH-research, we will discuss the potential of an interdisciplinary approach to literary analysis to explore and comment on natural-cultural entanglements in the Anthropocene. In this context, we will also investigate how the affective and aesthetic affordances of literature contribute to climate change literacy in a time of ecological crisis.
This is a reading-intensive course! The main methods of teaching in this class will be plenary and group discussions, which is why preparing the assigned texts and bringing them with you to class is crucial. Students will be expected to hand in questions for class discussion on a weekly basis. Students will also be required to engage in analytical writing activities in class.
